This morning we will consider the importance of serving God. While our nation observes "Labor Day", we will consider our God ordained purpose for which He made us: to serve Him with our life on earth.

Because we are at rest with God through being in Christ before God's throne in Heaven, we do not serve God to earn or deserve salvation.  It is because we are saved in Christ Jesus that we are called as God's people to serve Him.  It is an honor to be the servant of the Lord Who created Heaven and Earth. It is for His glory that we serve Him by serving others in His name. Matthew 9:35-38 gives us the words of the Lord Jesus when He called His disciples to go out into the harvest field and bring in the fruit for God. The principle is the same for us today. Let us go out into the fields of people He created to glorify Himself and reach them for Christ. May we be His ambassadors of the Gospel to bring the message of salvation to those around us.

We hope to see you Sunday morning at 9:30am to worship the Lord. Bring your Bible.

This morning we are going to look at Serving God. In Matthew 9:35-38 , the Lord Jesus Christ speaks to His disciples about the harvest field being ready for workers. He calls them to go out into the fields and reach people with the gospel. Today we are surrounded by a field ready for harvest.  Many are without Christ or needing the spiritual care that comes from those who have been comforted by the God of all comfort.

From the nursery to adults ministries, there is much work to be done.  Whether at home, school, work or in our church, God calls us to serve Him with the time and talents entrusted to us. The call and the need is the same today as it has been since the beginning: realizing the purpose for which God made us and obeying the call to serve.

Since we are at rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ for our salvation, let us get to work in the field that surrounds us. Let us bear fruit for His glory and offer it up to Him in praise.

We hope to see you Sunday to worship the Lord with us.  We begin at 9:30am.  Bring your Bible and a heart ready to worship.

This morning we conclude our study of the Lord Jesus Christ.  We have considered Who He is and Why He came.  This morning we are looking at our relationship with Him.  There are four positions in relationship to the Lord Jesus Christ. Each is found in the Bible.  First, we start  without Christ in our life. That is, we have no relationship with God.  We are without God in the world. In regard to God, we are an alien, outside of His household of faith. But then, we can move to being in Christ. Coming into the household of faith when we recceive Christ as our Savior and placed into the spiritual Body of Christ.  That is where God wants us to be. However, because we are in Christ, we are called to live in Christ while here on Earth. To live in Christ is our purpose for which God made us and saved us. The fourth relationship position is being with Christ in Heaven. Either by our physical death or the rapture of all Christians when he comes to meet us in the air.

Where are you in relationship to Christ? God wants us to be with Him because we are in His household of faith. To enter into a relationship with Christ, you must humbly admit your present position before God of  being lost without Him and the desire to be forgiven of your sin through faith in Jesus Christ's sacrifice in your place. God only allows those who really want to be saved and enter into a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ.

We will consider this more thoroughly Sunday morning.  I hope that you can be with us.  We start at 9:30am. Please bring a Bible so that you can look up the verses that I mention for yourself.  See yout there.

Sunday, August 22, 2010

This morning we cover the third in a series on the Lord Jesus Christ. We have covered Who He Is and now turn to Why Did He Come?

There is one ultimate reason why the Lord Jesus Christ came to earth.  It was to fulfill the Will of God, the Father. In everything that the Lord Jesus Christ, there was a fulfillment in Scripture. The Lord Jesus perfectly and completely did everything that God had written in His Word for Him to do.

God has revealed at least some of the reasons why Jesus Christ came. From out of Hebrews 10:5-7 taken from the Old Testament, the Lord Jesus came to fulfill the Will of God.  This includes fulfilling the Law and the Prophets that wrote about Him. There is more that is written about the Lord Jesus that awaits His coming again at the end of the Tribulation and through the Millennial Kingdom. Second, He came to be the Perfect Sacrifice for our sins. Again, the Old Testament prophesied of the Suffering Servant in Isaiah 53 that is perfectly fulfilled in the Lord Jesus.  Third, He came to be our Intercessor in Heaven before God's throne.

There is more to what He did and will do for us, but that will have to wait for Sunday morning.  I hope you can join us for worship and Bible Hour.  We start at 9:30am.  Bring your Bible.  We will be looking for you.

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

This morning we return to our study of the deity of Jesus Christ.  We have considered Who Jesus Christ is. We now come to a second part of that subject and must ask ourselves "Who Do We Say He Is?"

The chief priests and Pharisees could not bring themselves to accept Jesus Christ as the Messiah, the Son of God, which would make Him God in the flesh.  For this, they fully decided that Jesus had committed blaspheme for making himself God while only being a man in their eyes.  For this they would judge him and condemn him into the hands of an unwilling Pilate to have him crucified.

Well, in our day, we must ask ourselves, "Who do we say Jesus Christ is?" Many so called Christian organizations or religious institutions make him out to be just a man upon whom the Spirit of God came to perform God's will.  In other words, Jesus to them is only a man, a sinner, that God used to accomplish God's will. Others make Jesus out to be a man that became God through God's intervention and Jesus' good works.

I find God's Word to be clear that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh.  The Immanuel of Isaiah 7:14 .  The Ruler of Israel described in Micah 5:2 . The suffering servant of Isaiah 53 . The Great I Am of Exodus 3:14 .

This morning we will finish the topic of "Who Is Jesus Christ?" in preparation of considering Why Jesus Christ Came.  We hope you can be here.  We start at 9:30am. Bring your Bible!

This morning we are taking a look at Who Jesus Christ is. Several months ago, I received a letter from a man that had come to my house without any warning while I was gone and wanted to tell me about his beliefs about Who Jesus Christ is and why he thought that Jesus Christ was not equal with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. He left me two tracks from his so called church repersenting the religious organization for me to read.  It did not take long to realize that he did not have the same convictions about the truth of God's Word about Who Jsus Christ is. That letter and tracks have been brewing in my mind and heart since then and I felt it was God's leading that I should respond with at least three messages about Who Jesus Christ is and why He came to earth to be with us.

This morning I am focusing on Who Jesus Christ is from His Pre-Incarnate existence with the Father and the Spirit of God. This may seem like dusty, old theology but it is a current concern in our community and Christian culture today. God's Word is clear that Jesus Christ is God, has always been God and that truth will never change.  Man may try to come up with some misunderstanding of God's Word or try to change God's Word to fit their misguided plans, but God is still Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

This battle for the Deity of Jesus Christ began not only during the earthly life of Jesus Christ, but shortly after by misguided men seeking to gain their own following. A host of heresies have sprung up through the centuries that the Word of God clearly answers besides the orthadox church in creedal statements.

We need to uphold the Deity of Jesus Christ because God's Word does.  We will begin this Sunday at 9:30am.  Please bring  your Bible and read Colossians 2:9 before you come.

See you there.

Wash Up For Supper Print E-mail

Sunday, July 11, 2010

It's time for us to observe the Lord's Supper. After we worship and have a short congregational meeting, we are excused to go home and prepare for the Annual Church Picnic. Beginning with the Lord's Supper, we will consider the apostle Paul's words to the Corinthians concerning the needed change in their church gatherings.  It seems they were not waiting for one another to worship and share the Lord's Supper and a fellowship meal with each other.  Stern words are used to correct their "not meeting for the better but for the worse". Paul did not have praise for them because they simply did not show concern for one another. Perhaps they had angry feelings toward one another.  Perhaps those that had much could meet earlier, not waiting for those who had to work longer or travel farther. Their situation needed some correction.

When I was a child, I often would hear my mother yell to me, " wash up for supper." That was my que that I needed to come and get ready to eat with my family. When arriving at home, I needed to wash my hands and face to be presentable to the rest of the family.

I think that Paul is telling the Corintians that they needed to wash up before eating the Lord's Supper.  Coming clean before the Lord in their attitudes and actions with others. It is a time of reflection in prayer  before the Lord.  Acknowledging our sin before the Lord in prayer and then repenting or turning away from that sin in our life. This would have helped the Christians in Corinth to be more thoughtful of those who were coming. It would have made their observance of the Lord's Supper "worthy"  before God.

Another consideration is the requirement to be a Christian to be worthy of receiving the Lord's Supper.  It seems hypocritical to reject Christ but want to identify with His death, burial and resurrection. Why participate in the Lord's Supper when you are rebelling against His free gift of salvation and eternal life in Heaven?

Well, this is what we will consider when we gather together Sunday morning.  I hope you can be with us.  We meet at 9:30am. Consider reading 1Corinthians 11:17-34 to get a start on the message.

This morning we complete our study of Paul's letter to the Colossians.  Here we find the final greetings and instructions for the believers to carry out in Paul's absence. Paul personally greets them and then instructs them to share his letter with the surrounding churches, and read their letter as well. It must have been an enlightening experience to be the first to read what became God's Word. To hear and see the original manuscripts brought directly by Tychicus and those that accompanied him. We must be thankful to God that we are also the recepients of the same mesage written to the Colossians.

In these closing words, Paul personally greets them and instructs them.  Archippus is to be faithful to carry out the work that is entrusted to him. Paul asks for their prayers in his confinement in Rome to be a faithful witness.  Finally, Paul prays that God's grace and peace be with them in his absence.  Every blessing we receive from God comes as the result of God's grace.  We only have peace with God because He extends it to us through faith in Jesus Christ.

The summation of Paul's letter to the Colossians proclaims the supremacy of Jesus Christ as God and Lord of the Body of redeemed believers called by His Name.  After establishing the truth of Who Jesus Christ is, Paul proclaims the practical application of that truth in their lives. May we never confine the Word of God as truth without application in our life.

We hope that you can join us on Sunday morning at 9:30am.

This morning we celebrate the national holiday of Father's Day.  We will have special recognition for our fathers in the congregation and a prayer for their continuing work of caring for our as children through all our life. Our Heavenly Father  has given us everything we need to live in a manner that honors Him and fulfills His purpose in our life.  His word and Spirit are our guide and motivation to do what is right before His throne as we live here on Earth.

Our sermon will continue to reveal the "unsung heroes" of the Christian faith that served with Paul in the ministry. Most never wrote a book of the Bible, but all were a part of helping Paul to produce, deliver or proclaim the letters he wrote.  Godly character is essential to those that serve the Lord.  Whether you are a father or a child, we are all called to manifest the character exhibited in these men.  With rare exception, these men give us a model of how we can be of help today in the ministry of the Word.

I encourage you to read Colossians 4:12-14 to learn about three more men of faith.  Two remained faithful to the end, and one struggled and failed.

How are you coming with your character development? Let's grow in grace for the glory of God.

See you at 9:30am, Sunday morning.

This is coming a little late, but the message is similar to last weeks as we travel through Colossians 4:10-11 to learn about the "unsung" heroes of the Word of God.  Traveling together with the apostle Paul, there was a group of men and perhaps women who helped Paul with the day to day necessities and the spiritual aspect of the continuing ministry to the churches he either visited or wrote to.  These mostly unknown people were responsible for getting the Word of God contained in Paul's letters to the churches or individuals so that they might know the Truth and how to live as Christians. They also carried offerings from one church to another, especially to the Jerusalem saints that were suffering under the Romans and the unbelieving Jews.

In this passge, we will learn about Aristarchus, John Mark and Jesus, also called Justus. There are some interesting ideas found in these verses. We can learn from these men.

I hope to see you at 9:30am as we gather to sing, pray, greet one another and consider the truth of God's Word.

This morning we return to our study of Paul's letter to the Colossians.  In chapter 4:7-9, the apostle is writing to the Colossians about his fellow servants in the ministry.  Here we find a list of men that served with Paul in either supporting him while in prison or bringing letters to or from the churches. Some of the names we are familiar with such as  John Mark or Onesimus.  Others have names that are only found here, yet fulfill an importnat part of the ministry of the Gospel.  We might say these men are the "unsung heroes" of the ministry.  Not being apostles or prophets, they simply served the Lord by serving others.

As we finish out the letter of Colossians, we will meet several other men that served as a go-between for Paul in his continuing ministry with the churches.  These men traveled long distances with the Word of God and then gave the letters to church leaders to be read to the congregation. Perhaps they brought word of how Paul was serving and surviving in the prison. The main thought here is being willing to be used of God as a servant.  Having the character of humility and willingness to serve out side of your comfort zone. We may not be called to be a pastor or evangelist, but we are all called to serve the Lord in caring for one another according to our ability.  Bringing the message of the Word of God to others or praying for someone in need is a part of being a servant. Coming to the aid of another Christian or even caring for someone who does not know the Lord may be the ministry that God wants you to do.

As we consider Colossians 4:7-9 and the following passages over the next few weeks, you will be introduced  to some of the "unsung heroes" of the Christan faith.  You may never be recognized as a well known servant of the Lord, but God knows every act of servanthood that you do for Him. Let's keep up the ministry that God has entrusted to our care for His glory.

See you Sunday morning at 9:30am.

We Remember: Memorial Day Sunday Print E-mail

Sunday, May 30, 2010

This morning we are remembering the importance of those who have sacrificed their lives for the defense of our country, and the greatest sacrifice made in all time for eternity in the death of the Lord Jesus Christ for our sins and the reception of the gift of eternal life.

Memorials in our country and in God's Word serve a purpose.  They remind us of a person or event that greatly affects the course of our country or our spiritual life. We need to be reminded often of what has happened in the past that affects our present and future. Well over a million men and women have sacrificed their life for our freedom in America. The Lord Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself for all mankind on the cross to provide spiritual freedom from sin's condemnation unto hell.  His sacrifice has removed us from sin's domination in our life and brought the presence of the Holy Spirit into our life to help us live in obedience to God.

There are hundreds of memorials in our country for both individuals and places where great sacrifice occurred. There are many memorials in God's Word that remind us today of the both the sacrifice of godly people and especially the Lord Jesus Christ.  There are memorials that remind us of special events of both obedience and disobedience.  The most important memorial figure in Scripture is the cross of Jesus Christ. It is the symbol of paying for our sin.

This morning we will consider "memorials" in both our country and our Christian life.  I hope that you can be with us as we learn from God's Word and consider its impact on our life.

See you at 9:30am.

This monring we are considering Colossians4:7-9, concerning the unsung heroes of the Christian faith that never wrote a book or did a miracle, but simply and faithfullly served the Lord by assisting apostles like Paul with the work of the ministry. Both Tychicus and Onesimus were called dear brothers and faithful servants by Paul in their responsibility of bringing the Word of God to the Colossians and encouraging the believers in the faith.

To quote someone, "No one can everything, but everyone can do something." We are all called to serve the Lord in the ministry given in trust to the  Body of Christ. Not everyone is an evangelist or a pastor teacher, but the Body of Christ is made up of many parts that are never seen or hardly ever heard of that make the Body healthy and capable of fulfilling it God given purpose.

If you haven't joined the team yet, it's time to get on board and find your place.  Not as a tourist in the ministry, but as a vital part fulfilling a ministry in the local church

I hope to see you Sunday as we work through this passage.  We start at 9:30am.
