Finishing Well at Christmas |
|
|
Sunday, December 20, 2009
This morning we are going to look at one man that finished well at the time of Christ's birth. Actually, everyone except Herod finished well in the Christmas story. The man that we are focusing on is Simeon. He had been told that he would not die until he had seen the Lord's Christ, otherwise called the Consolation of Israel.
There are three character qualities in his life that I think are necessary for all Christians. First, he was "founded in the righteousness of God". You have start right in order to finish well. He started with a faith in God that determined the course of his life. Good advise for us today. The narrow path that leads to faith in Christ also leads us home to heaven, and keeps us on track with God throughout our life.
Second, Simeon was "focused in his anticipation" of what was to come. The hope of seeing the Lord's promise of seeing the Messiah directed Simeon's life. It shaped who he was and what he did. Again, good advise. What has hold on your attention? What fills your mind will direct your life toward it.
Third, Simeon was "fulfilled in seeing the Lord's Christ". It was enough for him. It was all he wanted. It brought fulfilment to his life. What is it that makes your life complete?
Well, thats what we are looking at Sunday morning at 9:30am. We will read from Luke 2:25-35 to get the story. We hope you can be there. We will also have "A Christian Christmas Carol" play written by two of our high school students. It brings the truth of finshing well in our life as Christians.
Sunday night we will share the Lord's Supper in candle light and watch a video presentation on the Christmas story. It will start at 6pm.
